A collection of quirky characters in extreme situations try to pull off a maple syrup heist to save their financial troubles
When Ruth Landry, a maple syrup producer, finds her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the robbery of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a warehouse in Quebec in 2011-2012; five people were sentenced to prison. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost the right to sell maple syrup to the cartel run by Leonard.
He is the only guard of the entire maple syrup supply
It seems her husband owns the rights to harvest the syrup, so she was fined for using his rights illegally. Remy, a sort of sad character, is the guard of the warehouse where all the syrup is kept and at night he was stealing a barrel or two from the warehouse, with a friend who suddenly dies. With Ruth in financial trouble, the only way out was to steal on a grand scale, and she and Remy brought Mike into the scheme.
The truth is very different
Mike is presented as a powerful person who can do great things. And with all the personality clashes and misunderstandings, it almost becomes a Keystone Cops heist. Every time they seem to have things under control, mishaps occur, and their way of trying to resolve them is a big part of the humor.
And a very interesting cameo
One loophole is that it leads to a second season, so there are a lot of loose ends. And as has been made abundantly clear, that is not how the robbery was actually committed. So this is a fun fictional tale.
